Russia is ready to start challenging the entry of its non-market economy into the WTO
Russia may soon start challenging the recognition of its economy as a non-market side of the United States in the WTO, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Vladimir Ilyichev said. It is unlikely that this will be challenged in court, Mr. Ilyichev explained to journalists on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Bangkok.
“We have been discussing the topic of market status with the Americans for a long time, they have made a decision. It is unlikely that it will be possible to challenge this in court in the current conditions, ”said the Deputy Minister (quoted from TASS). Accordingly, this can be challenged directly in the WTO, he explained.
He noted that the issue is that a dispute over market status can only be started if this methodology itself is applied in practice. “They make a general decision when they make a decision within the (anti-dumping.— “b”) an investigation based on this procedure, then it will be much easier to challenge it in the WTO,” Vladimir Ilyichev said. It is very difficult to cancel a self-theoretical decision, it is difficult.
Earlier, the US Department of Commerce reported on Washington’s opposition to not changing the Russian conference as a market one. This status was assigned to the Russian economy in 2002. As a reason the ministry cited the “wide interference” of the Russian resolution in the conference.
