Municipal council agenda (survey): NEOS call for new municipal council elections in Innsbruck
“Innsbruck needs new elections.” With this demand, NEOS-GR Dagmar Klingler-Newesely opens the political discussion phase before the next municipal council meeting on November 24th. In the current hour of the GR, the topic “Affordable housing is back on the agenda: Can the city tour sleep peacefully while children are homeless?” In addition, the motion “Bgm. Willi Georg, renunciation of the office as mayor” is up for discussion.
INNSBRUCK. “The conflicts in Innsbruck city politics never end. Especially since the collapse of the coalition of Greens, For Innsbruck, ÖVP and SPÖ, the free play of forces that followed has not led to any constructive work over the past two years, but only to ideological trench warfare, which makes constructive decisions more and more difficult,” reflects Dagmar Klingler-Newesely the events in the Innsbruck municipal council.
Are you in favor of new elections in Innsbruck?
“The political bickering has now reached such proportions that it is no longer possible to resolve the conflict. On the one hand there is an obviously overwhelmed mayor, on the other hand a destructive majority in the city senate and municipal council led by the FPÖ and FI, which is blocking. Individual issues are largely at a standstill, which is no longer justifiable and no longer acceptable,” says Klingler-Newesely.
Swapping chairs is not a solution
There are rumors of a vote of no confidence in the mayor, which could ultimately lead to the municipal council having to elect a new mayor from its own ranks. “In our view, the problem would by no means be solved, especially since the people who appeared on the municipal council and the city senate would remain seated,” Klingler-Newesely points out.
“A new election, on the other hand, would be a clean solution that gives hope that, with newly selected teams, constructive and rapid work on sustainable solutions will again become a matter of course for the people of Innsbruck. Therefore, at the coming municipal council meeting next week, we will put forward a motion to dissolve the municipal council. Innsbruck lasts and this suffering must end,” summarizes the pink councilwoman.
