Frankfurt: protest against rising prices
The initiative “Down with the prices” calls for a rally in Frankfurt’s Gutleutviertel. She criticizes the aid measures as insufficient and calls for radical solutions.
Anger and resistance to rising food and energy costs are growing in Frankfurt. “Down with the prices” demands an initiative of the same name, which is calling for a rally on the Schönplatz in the Gutleutviertel at the main train station for today, Saturday, at 12 noon.
According to their own information, the initiative has been active in the district for a few weeks and is trying to mobilize the people in the district against the price increases. The aim of the group, which is also involved in the city-wide campaign “Ebbe langts”, is to “initiate protests away from the major political actors”. The Bremen alliance against price increases serves as a model.
The Frankfurt initiative does not go far enough with the federal government’s aid in the energy crisis
The federal government’s aid measures do not go far enough for the Frankfurt initiative. She also thinks they are partly the wrong way. As an example, she cites dying from the energy supplier Mainova Announced increase in electricity prices by almost 80 percent to more than 50 cents. Electricity was also increased significantly despite the federal government’s expected cap on the price for 80 percent of previous consumption to 12 cents per kilowatt hour, while at the same time the profits of the suppliers would be heavily subsidized, the group criticizes. She accuses food companies of “shamelessly” increasing their profits during the crisis.
Instead, the initiative calls for “real redistribution from top to bottom, wage increases in the lower income groups” and a socialization of the energy companies.
