A municipal employee ofAniseto north of Caen (Calvados), gave the alert. It was he who called the firefighters around 1:40 p.m. this Friday, November 18, 2022 to intervene in the fire, which broke out in a farm at the exit of the village, on the D220, the road to Cambes in the Plain.
The farm is isolated in the middle of the fields, away from a housing estate, enveloped in trees, but an hour and a half later, the flames and the smoke are still clearly visible in the distance from the D79 road which leads to Villons- the bushes.
80 tonnes of flax destroyed
And for good reason. The fire broke out in a hangar containing 80 tons of flax and wheataccording to firefighters from SDIS 14. Equipped with two lances, 18 firefighters from the centers of Caen Couvrechef, Ifs and Ouistreham worked to contain the fire, to prevent it from spreading to a second shed still containing flax and agricultural implements.
“For the moment, we are procrastinating”, advances the group leader of the firefighters on site. As often with a flax fire, they let it consume itself, and remain under observation to see if he does not leave.
