Belarus again sends humanitarian aid to Syria – REFORM.by
A cargo of humanitarian aid worth more than 560,000 Belarusian rubles (about $222,000) is being sent to Syria by the government. This decision was made on November 17th.
The ruling of the resolution was published today on the National Legal Internet Portal and comes into force from the date of its adoption.
The money should be allocated by the Ministry of Finance from the republican budget to finance expenditures provided by natural disasters, accidents and catastrophes. For the collection of humanitarian aid, the Ministry of Health, Bellegprom and the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, and the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Emergency Situations must deliver the goods. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a proposal.
The decree published a list of goods that are sent to Syria – these are children’s clothing and medicines.
This is not the first delivery of humanitarian aid from Belarus to Syria. In June 2022, Belarus transferred sixty units of MAZ trucks and construction equipment as “contribution to post-conflict reconstruction” countries. Decision to provide humanitarian assistance for a large amount of 1.08 million rubles was recognized unchanged by Belarus on April 2, 2021. The first batch has been sent in September 2021 and officially handed over in the end of November.
In May 2022, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalia Kochanova during a meeting with the Ambassador of History in Belarus, Mohammad al-Umrani, she said that part of the humanitarian cargo from the second batch returned back to Belarus due to logistical problems.
