The Vršovice hotel school educates experts | PRAGUE | News
The Vršovická Hotel Secondary School is located near Čechova náměstí in Prague 10. It offers its students traditional traditions and experience in the field of hospitality, gastronomy and tourism.
“Ten graduates of the school have an extremely wide field of application, both in hotels and restaurants, and in the field of tourism, whether it is a travel agency, a travel agency or a tour guide,” said Petr Vomela – director of the Vršovická Hotel School.
The hotel school focuses on the field of study in Hospitality – i.e. a four-year full-time course ending with a matriculation exam. It offers students gastronomy or economics – management subjects. An important part of the studies is the mandatory teaching of two foreign languages. The emphasis here is on acquiring professional skills. Therefore, students carry out their internship in domestic as well as foreign institutions.
“This field cannot be taught just with rags and chalk, but of course it requires following modern technologies, which are usually quite financially demanding, because they are not here, so we have to go somewhere else to find them, so that cooperation is really important for us,” said Petr Vomela – director of the Hotelová škola Vršovická secondary school.
Students can do the practical part of the lessons directly on the school premises. This applies, for example, to the subject of food preparation technology.
“Here in the kitchen, we prepare with the students once a week, they have a menu for which they prepare, they standardize the dishes, they buy the ingredients and then they prepare a dish, like the potato soup you see here, today we have rolls made of leafy vegetables,” said Ilona Němcová – practical teaching teacher.

What glasses to use, how to prepare the dining table, where the fork belongs or how to properly serve a guest. Students also learn this as part of the service technician course.
“Our subject is mainly focused on restaurant service and at the moment we are discussing wine, that is, to know what varieties we offer, how to present the bottle correctly and how to open it correctly. As part of the service technician subject, we also learn how to lay out the blackboard, where where forks belong, where knives belong, we learn the ten maximum number of cutlery that we can use,” said Martin Líbal – a former student and teacher of service technology.
The fact that the school succeeds in educating professionals is also evidenced by the number of awards and diplomas received by its students. The fact that successful graduates return to school also applies to the family atmosphere. And not just as new teachers.
“It always makes me happy when I see former graduates who return to the school, looking for forms of cooperation, but what’s more, they enroll their own children in the study, so here we are already teaching the second generation that has passed through this school,” said Eva Rottová – head of practical teaching.
The hotel school in Vršovice offers students, for example, bartending, barista or confectionary courses. From the second year, also participation in catering events. Events at Prague Castle or Žofín Palace are worth mentioning.
