The 37 municipalities of the Metropolis made the choice in 2017, within the framework of the approval of its drinking water master plan, to continue the modernization of the metering systems and have recorded the deployment of remote reading. “Faced with the challenge of preserving water resources, remote reading of water meters allows each subscriber, via their personal online account or on the “Eau de Toulouse Métropole” mobile app, to know and control their consumption. , explains Robert Medina, the elected official in charge of water management. It can also be alerted quickly in the event of a presumption of leakage and the users who have one day financially suffered this damage, measure the very strong interest in this type of alert”.

More than 40% of the stock already renewed
Coupled with the flowmeter already in place on the network, remote reading also makes it possible to monitor losses on the network in real time and therefore to improve performance by targeting the search for leaks and by intervening more quickly. Since the beginning of the year, 36,000 meters have been renewed by the drinking water delegate. Almost 80,000 meters are now returned from a remote reading module, i.e. 40.5% of the meter fleet, which numbered 196,185 units as of December 31, 2021, making it possible to monitor already more than 60% of the volumes consumed. And the deployment of remote reading is planned until the end of 2024. The average age of the meters was already established in 2019 at 8.6 years. This is why, even in the absence of remote reading, a major replacement of the dilapidated meters should have been undertaken by the operator of the drinking water service.
