The European BNPL number one Klarna is in the Czech Republic. Camp Silicon Valley took place. Brno’s Tatum raised a billion dollar investment. These are the most interesting recent events from the FinTech world.
The European BNPL number one Klarna is in the Czech Republic
Klarna, the world’s leading payment intermediary in the field of electronic commerce, has announced its expansion into the Czech Republic. Starting today, Czech customers can use the “Pay in 3” service at selected retail partners and via the Klarna online application. In the Czech Republic, H&M, the Pilulka pharmacy chain and the Czech Footshop were among the first partners.
“Although e-commerce in the Czech Republic is growing at an astonishing pace, the purchasing process here is still complicated and full of uncertainties. Czech customers want to preview and try the goods ordered online in advance, but their options are only for outdated cash on delivery payments or the use of expensive credit cards,” says Sebastian Siemiatkowski, CEO and co-founder of Klarna.
On the domestic market, fintechs compete in the BNPL sector: Twisto, SkipPay, Platím pak and now Klarna.
Brno’s Tatum raised a billion dollar investment
Brno-based Tatum has taken another step towards obtaining the designation of a unicorn, i.e. a company worth more than billions of dollars. The startup, which enables companies and individuals around the world to quickly and easily create blockchain applications, has raised a record 41.5 million dollars in its next investment round, which is equivalent to more than a billion crowns.
Among the investors who stand behind the company founded in 2018 by Jiří Kobelka and Samuel Šramek, the well-known American fund Evolution Equity Partners has also recently been added. Other money was invested in it by financiers from Octopus Venture from the United Kingdom and 3VC from Austria, as well as the Czech investment funds Tensor Ventures and Depo Ventures, which were associated with Tatum from the beginning.

We realized the necessity of simple and direct communication,” praised Jiří Fuchs, CEO of CCFR.
Jan Müller from the startup PalmApp appreciated that, in addition to the successful stories, he also learned about the unsuccessful ones and why the given startups did not succeed. “It’s great when you see that, on the one hand, some problems are the same everywhere, on the other hand, it’s also good to see some differences in the outlook on the issue. Overall, I rate SVC very positively and if such an event were to be repeated, I would warmly recommend it to everyone,” he assessed.
