New protests in the Republic of Moldova. Cioroianu: In the context of war, any disturbance serves the interests of the aggressor
The Socialist Party of former pro-Russian President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon organized anti-government protests in about a dozen cities on Saturday.
On October 29, Dodon’s party organized rallies against “social genocide” and the “persecution of mayors”, it says, News producer. Deputies and activists of the Young Guard party and the youth organization were present, sometimes mayors of cities.
We remind you that for some time, the populist party ŞOR has been actively organizing protests in Moldova, probably with the financial support of the Kremlin.
Dodon’s party claims that the actions were organized in Bălți, Briceni, Drochia, Edineț, Fălești, Rîșcani, Soroca, Dubăsari, Cantemir, Căușeni, Ștefan Vodă; “from a few dozen to hundreds of people” gathered.
Former foreign minister Adrian Cioroianu is of the opinion that Russia is undoubtedly behind these protest movements.
In his opinion, Moscow seeks to turn R. Modova into a failed model in terms of European aspirations.
“We have seen for several weeks that something is happening there. The protests benefit those who oppose those who oppose the pro-Western direction in the politics of the Republic of Moldova. Russia is interested in none of the neighboring countries getting too close to the West”, explains Cioroianu, in an intervention on Digi24.
The former head of Romanian diplomacy also shows that Moscow is interested in diverting European attention to other problems. “The appearance of a scandal in Chisinau forces us to look there as well. The question that every man should ask himself is – who uses these tensions in Chisinau”, concludes Cioroianu.
An association of eight parties, including the PSRM, recently complained to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe about alleged pressure on mayors from the governing authorities. The call was sent by the mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban.
The leader of the party, former president Igor Dodon, is under house arrest for a series of charges, including corruption. In October, the court began examining the “bag” file on the alleged bribery for Dodon.
