A nationally unique promenade was created in the Great Forest
The Future of Debrecen movement created the unique Madár-lákópark promenade with sixteen stations in the Great Forest. Through the new, interactive attraction, the people of Debrecen can learn about nature conservation tools – birdhouses, dens – and the animal species that use them. The special feature of the promenade is that it is a permanent exhibition and a virtual guided nature walk.
– The city’s Green Working Group helps the city management in how we can make Debrecen greener and develop it in a sustainable way. This working group comes up with new initiatives from time to time, one example of which is the unique innovation Madár-lákópark, deputy mayor Ákos Balázs pointed out on Wednesday, at the handover of the interactive promenade.
The Madár residential park consists of 16 stations and is located in the Nagyerdő Park Forest. The creators placed a column at each station, on which the silhouette of that bird can be seen, and its habitat can be observed in the given part. There is also a QR code board on each column, by scanning these, the interested party can access a video in which the experts of the working group present the specific animal species.
We live here in Debrecen, we often go by the Great Forest, but you don’t always notice the wonders that our surroundings hide. This walkway now also helps to discover them
– added the head of the working group. Ákos Balázs also pointed out that the Great Forest of Debrecen was the first nature conservation area of our country and, continuing the work of the beginnings, the Green Working Group and the Future of Debrecen also launched a program that brings the Great Forest closer to the people of Debrecen. These include, among others, organized walks or the Green Cinema.
Regarding the Civaqua program, the deputy mayor said: the fifty-year-old dream of the people of Debrecen has come true by being able to bring Tisza water to Debrecen. The works are already underway, the first phase can be completed by November next year. This water will feed the Great Forest and the lakes in the wilderness.
Unfortunately, the left is attacking this development, with signatures on the data of Debrecen continuously. Yet he knows exactly that the program’s resources can only be used for nature conservation purposes – to emphasize.
– The city of Debrecen is committed in the field of environmental protection and nature conservation, which can be an example for other municipalities – Nikoletta Keszthelyi, the deputy state secretary responsible for environmental protection of the Ministry of Technology and Industry, praised the work of the working group and the movement. He said that it is important for the Government to expand green areas: in 2019, a national afforestation program was launched; and the goal of the newborn forest initiative is to plant 10 trees for every unborn child. In the latter program, 1,100,000 saplings were planted last year.
– The priority goal of the Government is to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. For this, he launched various programs, including the Green Bus program, to which Debrecen was one of the first to join. There are now 12 buses operating in Debrecen public transport, which relieves the city of 700 tons of carbon dioxide, he pointed out. In addition to all this, the Government has launched countless programs in the fields of waste management, environmental awareness and nature conservation, such as TeSzedd!, Hulladékradar or Zöld Óvoda.
