The forint strengthened after weakening following the central bank’s decision
Budapest – After the announcement of keeping the central bank base rate at the same level, the forint weakened, and after half an hour it recovered on the interbank foreign exchange market on Tuesday; around three o’clock, the euro was quoted at HUF 412.25.
As expected, the monetary council did not change the central bank base interest rate of 13.0 percent, nor did it change the two ends of the interest corridor. In the justification, the board wrote, the permanent maintenance of the current situation of the base interest rate by achieving the goal of price stability within the monetary policy horizon; the anchoring of inflation expectations and the sustainable achievement of the inflation target ensure the durability of strict monetary conditions.
At 2:00 p.m., the euro rose from HUF 412.20 to HUF 414.83, and later fell back to around HUF 412. During the day, the forint exchange rate was the strongest at 411.124.
The dollar rose from HUF 418.60 in the afternoon to over HUF 420, then corrected to HUF 415.60.
The euro strengthened against the dollar, rising from 0.98565 in the morning to 0.99279 by 3:00 p.m.
