That was Jazz And The City from October 13th to 16th, 2022 in Salzburg
The #Festival #Jazz And The City, which took place from October 13th to 16th, 2022 in the old town of Salzburg, was a complete success and a hopeful sign of the times. The creative music and performance program with around 100 events at 17 locations delighted around 20,000 visitors for four days. The annual #musicfestival for contemporary art organized by the Altstadt Salzburg Marketing GmbH creates attractive incentives for locals, #daytourists or weekend guests to visit the city of #Salzburg with increased admission.
That was Jazz And The City 2022
On 3 sunny autumn days, the Jazz And The City festival invited around 20,000 visitors with free entry to more than 100 concerts and performances with more than 150 musicians and artists from all over the world in the old town of Salzburg from October 13th to 16th, 2022. This always interactive festival shows that the city has as many facets as traditions. It offers opportunities to experience and discover the city in a new way. For the Salzburg Old Town Association as client, Jazz And The City is the logical continuation of the city’s baroque history, the idea of playfulness – the tongue-in-cheek, the double play behind the walls and hedges, this music festival takes up with relish and contemporary – not programmatically, but together with the Artists, many of whom have been associated with the festival for years and are always happy to come back …
“Jazz And The City has become one big family that invites everyone to join hands and help shape the city,” said Tina Heine about this successful 6th edition under her festival management. “It takes time and courage to deal critically and actively with the issues of our time.” The entire festival was more than the sum of its parts, the “open” city was a cornucopia of lived and experienced possibilities, always after the omnipresent Motto of George Gershwin: Life is like #jazz … the best way is to improvise.
International festival with a diverse program
The kick-off evening on Thursday could not have started more entertaining and emotional than with the Welsh singer Lan Shaw, who sat down at the piano to not only sing heartfelt #pop and jazz songs himself, but also to draw attention to himself from the audience in the up to the last Place filled to support #scene Salzburg. Like a good entertainer, he encourages the audience to sing along. Even Salzburg’s Mayor Harald Preuner joined in on »Blowin’ In The Wind«. Then one of the most important personalities of the European jazz scene. The Portuguese singer Maria Joao leads the audience with a young band that also relies on electronic alienation, constantly changing roles. The next day, the Japanese resident of Berlin, Aki Takase, also demonstrated how exciting it can be when old masters of experimental jazz choose young accompanists thoroughly surprised. Revolutionary workers’ songs, composed by Hanns Eisler and texts written by Bertolt Brecht, were performed with just as much respect as playfulness and joy in these ingenious songs of a deliberately simple kind, from chansons to the Moorsoldaten. As a guitarist, Hasse Paulsen did not shy away from classic blues riffs, and Edward Perraud played the drums with such gestures and humor that the people of Salzburg celebrate him.
