Country reports improvements in Senecura retirement home

The conditions in the much-criticized Senecura retirement home in Salzburg-Lehen have improved significantly. The home and nursing service management have been reassigned by the operator, and the home is being checked very carefully, according to the state.
There were 63 residents when the care scandal became known, there are 54 now and there must be 50 at the end of this month – that says the ultimatum from the state of Salzburg to the operator. But overall the situation has become very positive, says social affairs officer and deputy governor Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens), who is leaving office in just under three weeks because of the scandal.
The home supervisor continues to make weekly inspections there. Schellhorn quotes from the survey of a resident a few days ago: “It wasn’t as bad as it was portrayed. But now the staff is there, everyone is very nice. The new manager is great too. You always get support when you need it.”
Tight control indefinitely
The country put pressure on Senecura to make more staff available. There are now more permanent staff and fewer temporary staff working in the home. The HR department receives daily reports on the number of staff from the home supervisor. That will be indefinitely, says social officer Schellhorn. The Ombudsman’s Office has uncovered the grievances at Senecura Lehen.
