The fourth city district has published a final document that evaluates the state and potential of the Branické skála natural monument. It also proposes future interventions and a care plan, the most important of which is the balanced use of individual parts of the territory.
The vision of the management, development and restoration of the Branické skal was published by the four on their own website. In particular, the document recommends rigorous protection of the entire natural monument, including the so-called school hill. It is currently massively overgrown with invasive woody plants.
The new park will be used for sports and recreation
According to the document, a park should be created between the rocks and Modřanská street. It will serve all residents, whether for walks, dog walking or sports. There will also be outdoor fitness elements, a cycling route or a grassy area suitable for playing ball games. Parents with children will be able to use the playground near the Evangelical church.
On the contrary, the forest above the rocks should remain a peaceful place. The only interventions proposed here concern the improvement of the condition of the road network and the addition of forest park furniture.
A unified information system will help visitors
Another possible prospective change is the reconstruction of the transport company’s exchange office on the edge of Dvorci, where a park could be extended under the rocks. Unified furniture and a unified information system would help visitors.
The last recommendation from the document concerns the construction of a building for the manager of the park and natural monuments near the Evangelical church. The building should also serve as a toilet for visitors.
The document includes both an analytical and a practical part
The introductory part of the document is analytical and provides detailed information about the nature and state of the territory. The middle part presents the main principles of viz and also explains the logic of the chosen spatial division of the monument. The third part then takes the form of project cards. These briefly describe the current and target state. In addition, they also summarize the basic requirements for the management and maintenance of the Branické skal.
In addition, the appendices in the form of a tabular section provide a detailed care and maintenance plan for the proposed changes. The recommendations are divided into four categories according to the proposed construction time.
The entire document, see management, development and restoration of Branické skal, is available at download in PDF on website Prague 4.
It was necessary to combine the wishes of the visitors and the vision of the town hall
“I did not agree to once again thank everyone who contributed to the creation of this vision with their suggestions. The greatest potential of the city is the combination of the diverse wishes of visitors to Branické skal with the needs to protect the most vulnerable places of natural monuments, which we have repeatedly consulted with the staff of the Environmental Protection Department of the Capital City Municipality. I believe it was done“ stated Patrik Opa (ODS), Councilor for Territorial Development and Construction.
In July of this year, a survey was conducted among the residents of the four, trying to find out what they think about the considered changes in the natural monument. 459 respondents took part in it. In addition to evaluating proposals for access to individual locations, they also contributed several hundred individual suggestions and comments. The majority of residents then proposed changes.
