Gazprom reduced natural gas deliveries to the Kuchurgan plant by 30%
The Kuchurgan thermal power plant in the separatist region of Transnistria, over which Russia has full control, produces about 70% of Moldova’s electricity.
However, Russian giant Gazprom has cut natural gas supplies to the Kuchurgan plant by 30 percent since October 1 amid a dispute over payments. Also, in the context of growing concern, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Andrei Spînu (PAS), declared that Romania will help Moldova cover the electricity deficit.
Moldova will choose electricity from the Romanian market
The authorities from the Republic of Moldova will select electricity from the Romanian market at a price of 450 RON/MWh, after the Government in Bucharest made changes in the legislation. In this context, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development from Chisinau emphasized that the price is lower than the one on the market and will ensure the necessary 30% that the Republic of Moldova can no longer receive from Ukraine.
At the same time, the official from Chisinau said that the help offered by Romania at a difficult time to come to the country.
“This is possible because we succeeded in synchronizing our system with the European electricity system back in March. To come to the aid of the Republic of Moldova, the Government of Romania approved an Emergency Ordinance which stipulates that electricity producers have a limited obligation to conclude bilateral contracts, in the available quantities, with priority traders/suppliers of electricity designated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova. According to the CSE decision, Energocom is the designated company.
Thanks to the open-mindedness and support of the warming provided by Romania for our citizens, we know that we are not alone and we have a friend that we cannot rely on in the most urgent situation. Farewell, Romania!”, declared the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development from the Republic of Moldova, Andrei Spînu.
