Thursday evening was an adrenaline-pumping experience for firefighters, police officers and paramedics, luckily it had a good end. They were rescuing a man from the building of the Hotel Praha, which stands on the square near the Liberec town hall.
The incident took place on Thursday evening before eight o’clock. A medically indisposed man broke into freely accessible areas and reached the roof of the hotel. All components of the integrated rescue system responded to the scene. “We assisted the Police of the Czech Republic in rescuing people from the building using a car ladder,” confirmed the spokesperson of HZS LK Jakub Sucharda.
Intervention on the roof of the Prague hotel
At 7:40 p.m., the police received a report via line 158 about a man coming on the roof of the building. “We managed to pacify the man. Standard criminal proceedings are being carried out as part of the examination of the circumstances of the entire incident. We are currently securing, among other things, witness statements and other important means of evidence,” said a police spokesman Vojtěch Robovsky.
The man, apparently under the influence of narcotic and psychotropic substances, damaged the internal equipment of the building and then went to its upper floors. There he broke other internal security elements of the building and climbed onto part of the roof. “With his erratic behavior, which he accompanied with loud verbal expressions, he made those around him suspicious enough that he could harm himself,” the spokesman added.
The rescuers finally managed to get the man down, he was taken to hospital with moderate injuries. “Intervening police officers were also subjected to medical procedures,” concluded Robovský.
