Purifiers, almost one out of 3 samples in Pisa are not compliant
32% of the 180 controlled purifiers show irregularities. This is the picture that emerged from the recent checks Arpat, which controlled 90% of the urban wastewater treatment plants with a potential greater than 2,000 pe. 90 irregularities were found involving 57 plants, equal to approximately 32% of the 180 controlled purifiers.
“Arpat – he explains – in 2021 checked the quality of the final discharge of 180 urban wastewater treatment plants with a potential greater than 2,000 pe (equivalent inhabitants) delivered to surface waters, or more than 10 thousand ae and if delivered to coastal marine waters, on a total of 201 plants registered in Tuscany (90%). The control at the discharge of the purification plants has the objective di verify the adequacy and efficiency of the purification treatments used and the impact of the discharge on the water body, in order not to jeopardize its quality status “. A note from Arpat reads: “The disputed have led to 81 administrative sanctions and 9 of a criminal nature with communications of crime news”.
A Pisa, out of 28 inspected implants, they were taken 77 samples of which 21 were not compliant. “For the province of Pisa, where there are purifiers mainly a service of the tanning industry managed by Cuiodepur Consortium and Aquarno Consortium, reference should be made to the in-depth information contained in specific notes on the results of the 2021 control at the final discharge of the Aquarno and on the monitoring of the waters of the Usciana canal in order to assess the impact of the purification plant on the quality of the water in the canal. In the Report it is possible to check in detail the results of the checks for each province with the registry of each and any sanctions carried out during 2021 “.
Most of the disputes in Lucca. “Compared to 2020 – explains Arpat -, there is a slight increase in the number of plants (about 10 more) and an increase in more sanctions controlled); the crime reports remain almost stable (one more). The purifiers subject to administrative sanctions are 13 more than last year (from 42 this year to 55 plants) the number of plants on which a crime report is carried out remains stable. The reasons for these limitations are in most of the legal reasons of some parameters sought (Annex 5 III of Legislative Decree 152/06) and other irregularities as well as respect for the present authorizations. The parameters for which exceedances are most frequently found are suspended solids and BOD5, followed by Escherichia coli. The exceedances of COD, ammonia nitrogen, nitrous and nitric nitrogen were more limited, followed by parameters belonging to table 3, including zinc (3 cases), copper, aluminum and iron (one exceeding each). The purification plants controlled in 2021 are distributed among the 15 Managers including those outside the integrated water service (Aquapur, Aquarno, CuoioDepur, Gida). Plants larger than 100,000 AE recorded the highest percentages of both administrative (SA) (70%) and criminal (CNR) (30%) irregularities ”.
