Pub quiz dedicated to 750 years of Amsterdam: “Apple egg because I was born here”
In café Lust in Zuid, 12 teams tested their knowledge during the Amsterdam Pub Quiz last night. Because Amsterdam has been around for almost 750 years, dozens of quizzes are held in the city. The winners can go to the grand final in the Nieuwe Kerk on October 29.
The quiz, which has a total of eight rounds, takes you through the rich history of the city’s nearly 750 years of existence. While one person can list all Amsterdam mayors from the Second World War in a fraction of a second, another has difficulty listing Amsterdam’s main canals. “The goal is to win, secondary sociability”, says a visitor with a joke. “I have hit the necessary, I estimate my chances high.”
Tactics
The participants start methods to take off with the winnings. different lean on knowledge, others try to creep into the head of the parent. “I came here early, had a good look at all the people and had a good laugh. Like a staredown, so I think I’ll have a good turn later,” said one visitor. Another contestant is secretly taking advantage of his. “Is that cheating? Everything is allowed, eyes on the prize.”
There were also a few good brain teasers for the real city connoisseurs, but all in all, many liked the quiz. The quiz can be played at various locations in the city until 15 October. In addition to cafes, you can also play with it at community centers, nursing homes, libraries and cultural venues.
The winning team may send one player per location to the final: the Grote Amsterdam quiz in the Nieuwe Kerk. On October 29, it will be decided who will be crowned the city expert of the year.
