Mayor Hřib: Prague is strengthening cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic

Prague councilors approved the conclusion of the Cooperation Agreement between the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the capital city of Prague.
This document, which was ceremoniously signed by the mayor and chairwoman of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic on Thursday, October 6, aims to create a framework for the emergence of closer all-round ties between individual scientific workplaces and the city, thereby contributing to the development of the metropolis’s innovative infrastructure and its potential as one of the leading scientific center of Central Europe.
The cooperation will focus on the broad area of innovation support in natural science and humanities disciplines. In addition to regular research, the possibility of using feedback and verifying scientific findings directly during their application is also considered. The expected cooperation led to the effective, purposeful and practical use of the latest scientific knowledge in solving the specific needs of the capital city, thus the wider region. In addition, this cooperation will stimulate the natural development of the formal and informal education system, in accordance with the city’s long-term plan and general European and world trends. The city council approved the document at its meeting on Monday, September 26.
“Prague has now gained a valuable partner in the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, whose achievements in the field of basic research are undeniable and recognized at home and abroad. The support of science and research is one of the city’s long-term priorities, which is why they are also promoting the creation of a science and technology park in Prague that will support research and innovation. Together, therefore, I believe that the signing of this contract marks the beginning of a new stage of significant synergy between the city and research in the broadest sense of the word,” says Mayor Zdeněk Hřib.
“Thanks to this memorandum between the capital city of Prague and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, we will not only strengthen the current cooperation in mutual projects, but also support new research that we will later be able to apply to the real world,” says the councilor for education, sports, science and business support Vít Shimral.
The Department of Project Management, which has extensive experience in implementing the city’s participation in activities supporting innovation, research and development, is entrusted with the management and coordination of cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic on behalf of the Prague municipality.
In the first phase of cooperation, it will be used to deepen the development of involvement in the European research area, to increase the effectiveness of the implementation of scientific results in the field of industry and the application sphere, and to ensure the provision of a functional infrastructure in the field of research and research. At the same time, partial strategic goals of the city in the field of active employment policy, ecology and environmental protection, or the concept of deepening the cultural traditions of the region and research into its cultural and historical decisions will also be monitored. “Cooperation of the Academy of the Czech Republic with the head m Prague works very well, which has been shown, among other things, during the covid-19 pandemic. We are very happy that we are now confirming the excellent cooperation with a contract, and we look forward to its continuation and deepening,” adds Eva Zažímalová, president of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
