Lithuania, which is in the fifth basket, awaits the opponents of the European Championship selection
The Lithuanian national men’s national team found out their opponent in the selection for the 2024 European Football Championship on Sunday.
The draw ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 9, in Frankfurt (Germany). The start of the ceremony is at 1:00 p.m. Lithuanian time. It will be shown live by VIAPLAY.
Of the 55 countries that are UEFA members, 53 participate in the draw. Germany, the host of the tournament, already has an automatic ticket and a place in the championship, and Russia, which was suspended after the war in Ukraine, will definitely not participate in the championship.
The teams will be divided into ten groups – seven of them will have five teams each, the remaining three – six teams each.
The first-placed team from each group will advance directly to the championship, along with hosts Germany, while the remaining three are determined after a play-off where teams can participate via the UEFA Nations League.
The four best teams from divisions A, B and C, which do not qualify for the championship, qualify for the playoffs. They will meet in the playoffs of their division, from where one team will rise to the champion. If any of the four straight division teams advance directly to the championship, the playoff spot will go to the team ranked next overall in the division.
In the baskets arranged before the draw (which were arranged according to the performance of the teams in the season of the UEFA Nations League), the Lithuanian national team got into the fifth basket.
This means that the draw will certainly not bring Lithuanians together with the teams of Slovakia, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Belarus, Gibraltar, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova and Malta, which are in the fifth basket.
