Start of the Niki de Saint Phalle exhibition at Les Abattoirs
This weekend is also marked by the inauguration of a new exhibition at the Abattoirs de Toulouse, focusing on the colorful works by the Franco-American artist Nikki from Saint Phalle (1930-2002). For the first time, the collection is devoted to his creations made between the 1980s and 1990s, during which the artist imagined the famous tarot garden in Italy. “If the 1960s and 1970s made Niki de Saint Phalle famous, thanks to these emblematic Shots and Girls or even with his proximity to New Realism, it is time to look at what is falsely called “the second part” of his career”, we explain to Les Abattoirs.
This period of his life is particularly characterized by a certain independence. Particularly vis-à-vis art galleries, since Niki de Saint Phalle has produced more works dedicated to public spaces (Stravinsky Fountain in Paris) or to individuals, like many jewels, furniture, perfumes, inflatable or transportable objects. The exhibition at the Abattoirs will thus make you, from this weekend, discover its superb sculptures, mosaics, girls, animals, hearts, skulls and colorful monsters…
