Brose Bamberg lost in the opening game against Alba Berlin with 80:90
Brose Basket is defeated by Alba Berlin
Brose Bamberg had to admit defeat in the opening game of this year’s easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga season in Alba Berlin by 80:90
The game was complete for three quarters, and it was only in the final section that the guests – initiated by a few avoidable ball losses from Bamberg – got on the road to victory. Three Bamberg players scored double digits, Vaidas Kariniauskas was the most accurate Brose player with 15 points.
Oren Amiel: “First of all: Congratulations to Israel and all the best in the EuroLeague. I want to echo his words. The mood today was great. Our fans pushed us, even when things didn’t go so well. That was good advertising for our sport today, and we all missed that a lot. We really appreciate that and don’t take it for granted. The game is simply summed up: against such a team, if you keep losing the ball in the decisive phases, especially in phases where the momentum shifts in your favor, then it is difficult and you pay for it immediately. We had three turnovers in a row, they made easy points. But the commitment and the passion were there. We have to learn to do better against such physical teams. But I think today’s game showed us what we still have to work on. And yet: we gave everything until the end. we can build on that.”
Gabriel Chachashvili opened the party with a three, setting the stage for a solid first quarter for Brose Bamberg. Above all, the team didn’t let the Berlin races throw them off course. Such a 10-0 run from Bamberg’s point of view resulted in a seven-point deficit (3:10, 4th minute). Amir Bell ended the small offensive flight, Justin Wright-Foreman prevented it, Jaromír Bohacík hit the three – in the middle of the segment Brose was back on four: 10:14. These minus four even became minus nine shortly before the end, but the last actions both belonged to the home side. First, Solomon Young hit two free throws, shortly afterwards Spencer Reaves set the buzzer threesome from the run and the corner to make it 20:24 after ten minutes.
And Brose stayed in touch at the beginning of the second quarter. Bell hit the three, shortly afterwards Patrick Heckmann two free throws for the first lead after the first minute (25:24, 11th). It was a completely even game now, with both teams having their good periods, but not quite as good either. The result: It remained a one-possession game almost continuously until halftime, which went into the dressing room at 40:42. The best Bamberg thrower to date was Jaromír Bohacík with ten points, while in Berlin Jaleen Smith was the most accurate with 13 points. The rebound balance was also balanced (18/19), Berlin was only a little better when it came to the distributed assists (9/12), and the guests have also been more focused on the ball to date (6/3 turnovers).
At the beginning of the second half, Blatt hit the three for Berlin, which Broses center Solomon Young equalized shortly afterwards with a successful long-range shot. It remained an exciting game, because whenever the Berliners gained a slight advantage, one of the Brose players was also there on the other side. Sometimes it was Sengfelder, then Bell again, then again and again Solomon Young and Vaidas Kariniauskas, all of whom put up a solid Bamberg team performance against the capital city. Consequently, none of the teams was able to break away in the third section either, and after a Kariniauskas lay-up shortly before the siren it went 60:62 into the final section.
There it initially remained the same picture. Berlin traffic, Brose answered. Brose met, Berlin answered. It went back and forth like that until about the middle of the last quarter. Then the hosts lost the ball a few times, which the guests on the other side mercilessly exploited. The result: ALBA was able to pull away after all, and after two successful free throws four minutes before the end, was in the double-digit lead for the first time: 69:80. But Brose fought, Brose showed morale, kept getting nice shots, but was no longer able to get any real access in defense to generate more stops and thus let them decrease again. In the end, Brose Bamberg had to admit defeat 80:90.
