[Actualités] Insupp’ #7: AS Monaco is in Ligue 1, whether you like it or not
We were able to chat with a Monegasque supporter who runs the “I support Monaco” page on Facebook. Created following the rise in 2013, it aimed to target the media and the authorities not all favorable to the return of the Principality club among the French elite. Supporter and long member of an ultras group, he has only missed a handful of matches in twenty years. Let’s meet this supporter of the reds and whites.
Can you introduce yourself and tell us why you created the “I support Monaco” Facebook page?
Already, thank you for giving the floor to a Monegasque supporter. I have been a supporter since I was eleven years old, my first season having been one of the best in 2003/2004 with a Champions League final. I live next to the stadium. I was ultra and missed less than ten matches in twenty years.
The page was created to denounce the behavior of certain media and French football leaders who took a dim view of the rise of AS Monaco in 2013.
Monaco is currently fifth. What is the final objective for the club at the end of the season?
The target place is of course at least third place with the ambition of finishing second to avoid a third disappointment in three years by failing in the Champions League play-offs.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of this Monegasque team?
Our strength is our attack, all our defenders and midfielders have attacking qualities above the championship average, Ben Yedder and Embolo are formidable attackers on their good days.
Our greatest weakness is our lack of motivation. Our players are not involved and do not defend enough in some unglamorous matches (home defeat against Troyes and Lens) and quickly lose their nerve. Conversely against Paris where Lyon she showed an irreproachable mind. Our flaws can also come from Badiashile who is a very good defender capable of lacking concentration at certain important moments, or even Nubel who is a very rejected goalkeeper with us, many precisely preferred Benjamin Lecomte to this position.
Why did the latter fail to establish itself in the Principality?
Benjamin Lecomte had imposed himself well, he had saved us a lot even if his performances were not always at their best. It came as a surprise to everyone to see him lose his spot for a loaned prospect. The leaders wanted to try a bet which for the moment remains rather a failure.
What is your opinion on Montpellier Hérault?
Montpellier is a club that of course reminds us of its title at the beginning of the Qatari air. There is absolutely no rivalry or history between our two clubs. We are grateful to you for leaving us Ruben Aguilar who always brings his motivation and his incredible energy on the right flank.
Who is the player that scares you the most for Sunday?
Whabi Khazri is a player I don’t like and who has often scored against us in the past, with Bordeaux, Rennes or even Saint-Etienne recently.
A little prognosis?
Draw two goals everywhere, I predict Monaco only play a top half.
What is your Insupp’ side?
The same trait that characterizes many Monegasque supporters, saying how much we love the League and its referees who lead us (laughs).
