The number of confirmed cases of Monkeypox in Portugal rises to 930
FThree more cases of human infection with the Monkeypox virus were confirmed in Portugal in the last week, increasing the total number to 930, as advanced this Thursday, this Thursday, by the Health Department (DGS).
“930 confirmed cases were identified, only 3 more compared to the previous week”highlighted the DGS in a note published on its website.
Of the 855 cases already reported in SINAVEmed (National Epidemiological Surveillance System), “most belong to the age group between 30 and 39 years old” and they are male (99%). There are still eight cases (1%) in females.
Until last Sunday, 522 contacts had been vaccinated “in the post-exposure context”.
On September 26th, the “preventive vaccination for groups at increased risk of human infection” by Monkeypox began, based on Regulation 006/2022 updated on September 20th. In this context, 88 people were vaccinated.
The DGS added as “regions of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, Center, North and Algarve the vaccine in places identified by each ARS and the remaining regions to organize the administration of vaccines in the preventive context”.
