Football: Giampiero Ventrone died in Naples, he was the athletic trainer of Tottenham
Giampiero Ventrone, current athletic trainer of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, died this morning in Naples. Ventrone, famous for being called ‘Marines’, was a leading man of Juventus in the era of Giraudo and Moggi and with the coaches Lippi and Conte.
Ventrone allegedly died of fulminant leukemia. Neapolitan by origin, Ventrone was 62 years old: the nickname ‘marine’ derives from his military past and from the ‘military’ precision with which he athletically prepared footballers.
Very close to Juventus, with whom he lived a golden age, he followed the former Bianconero Conte to the Spurs, bringing his experience to the land of Albion. Recently, pictures of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min exhausted from training have been around the world.
Ventrone had arrived at the emergency room of the Fatebenefratelli hospital in Naples on the evening of 4 October and immediately put on mechanical ventilation because he was in a coma. A few days ago he had discovered that he had acute myeloid leukemia.
The funeral home has been set up at the Fatebenefratelli in Naples and will remain open until Saturday. On Sunday, also in Naples, the funeral will be held starting at 3 pm in the church of San Luigi Gonzaga in via Petrarca. “We hold you all in a big hug”, is the message from his wife and children.
