Emirates News Agency – UAE among the first countries to contribute to Malta’s development: Maltese Ambassador

ABU DHABI, October 6, 2022 (WAM) — Maria Camilleri Calleja, Ambassador of Malta to the UAE, affirmed that the bilateral relations between her country and the UAE have deep roots, especially with the growth they have seen in last few decades.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Maltese Ambassador noted that diplomatic relations between the UAE and Malta were established in 1973 and continued to grow, to further boost cooperation between the two countries.
She explained that the archives of the Maltese government show that the UAE was one of the first countries that helped Malta in its development process through the Abu Dhabi Development Fund.
Calleja said that the development of their bilateral relations was further supported by Malta which opened its Consulate General in Dubai in 2010, and its Embassy in Abu Dhabi in 2020.
She pointed out that the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing a joint Emirati-Maltese committee, which provided promising opportunities to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, such as education and diplomacy. She also referred to the MoU signed between the Diplomatic Academy of the Emirates and the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies of the University of Malta.
