Cornezos: “Agia Sophia is the best stadium in Greece”
The interview of Giorgos Kornezos about Lamia and the new stadium of AEK.
Giorgos Kornezos was transferred from AEK to Lamia in the summer.
The young stopper signed for three years and immediately earned a starting position in the Fthiotida team. Cornezos gave an interview to the “lamiara.gr” website and mentioned Lamia’s progress so far, as well as AEK’s new stadium. What he said in detail:
-What are your impressions and how is your adaptation to the team:
“Yes, I came at the end of the transfers and I can say that the team embraced me and made me adapt immediately.”
-On the interest of Lamia and how he finally arrived for a transfer and not a loan as had happened in the past:
“I knew about Lamia’s interest at least 1 month before I came and I had been informed by the club (AEK) that I would move to Lamia as a free agent with an option.”
-You were announced on the same day as another defender, Oliver Benitez, while he already had Tzanetopoulos and Adetzo on the roster. Did you expect to be able to win a first team jersey right away?
“I believe in myself and I believed I could cope at Super League level so yes I came here to get games on my feet but in no way did I expect to win a first team shirt straight away.”
-Is there competition or competition for a place in the 11th?
“Everywhere I think there is competition, because everyone wants to play, there is no footballer in the world who does not want to play.”
-In these first 6 games of the team, they are among the football players who stand out with their performance, with the highlight being the game against Levadeiakos. How do you feel about it and what do you promise for the sequel:
“I feel very good with the good performances as well as with the results that the team brings so far and in every game I give my best for the best of the team.”
-If I’m not mistaken, it was the first time he faced your former team. How did you feel?
“Yes, it was the first time. “Okay, the feeling is very strange because you have to prove to your former team that you were wrong that they didn’t keep you.”
– Well, I can’t help but ask you about Hagia Sophia. Were you a long time member of the team and I imagine you experienced the anticipation first hand?
“Agia Sofia, I think we all agree that it is the best football stadium in Greece and it was definitely worth the wait for its creation so that the AEK Association and its people can enjoy it.”
-On Saturday you have a difficult task against a team that sees the game as a final and that you have served in the past. What game are you waiting for?
“On Saturday we know that Ionikos gives a final and we know that the game will go to strength and from there on he wants to win more”.
-Two words about the city, the world, the stadium and Gianluca Festa:
“Lamia is a calm city with a nice stadium for the category and a good coach like Mr. Festa. I think the atmosphere is excellent both in the team and with the people. The people of Lamia are very warm to the team and we want them next to us in all the games. We saw them in Ioannina, Peristeri and we hope for a similar continuation because we feel easier with them».
-What would be a success for Lamia this year?
“The team’s goal for this year is salvation from Noris in something that I believe in the end we will all achieve together.”
-What is Giorgos Kornezos’ football dream:
“My football dream like every football player is to play in the biggest football organization that is in the Champions League and of course to deserve to compete with the National team in some organization”.
