Tesla Model Y is the best-selling car in Switzerland In 2022, Tesla Model 3 is the third best-selling
The best selling car in Switzerland is now the Tesla Model Y. These aren’t just electric cars, and it’s not just for one month – it’s for the first 9 months of 2022. Also, the Model Y’s older but slightly smaller sibling, the Model 3, is the third best-selling car at the Playground of Europe.
How alone Tesla is in this market is shown by the fact that (unfortunately) no other electric vehicle is in the top 20. The country’s third best-selling electric vehicle, the Škoda Enyaq, ranks 22nd in the overall list of car sales. It had just over half the Model Y’s sales in the first 9 months of the year.
Škoda is apparently a popular brand in Switzerland. It is the parent company of the model that shares the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 on the podium, with the Škoda Octavia taking second place.
With just two very popular models, Tesla hasn’t climbed to the top of the brand leaderboard. German automakers still dominate this view, with Volkswagen (10.4%), Mercedes-Benz (8.7%), BMW (8.6%) and Audi (7.8%) occupying the top 4 positions. And then there is the aforementioned Škoda (7.6%). Tesla is in 8th place (3.9%) after rising just ahead of Ford (also 3.9%).
Remarkably, Tesla sales in Switzerland increased by 52.1% in the first 9 months of 2022.
If you only look at fully electric vehicles, you can see that besides the top two models from Tesla and the Škoda Enyaq, electric models with decent performance include the Audi Q4 e-tron, the Fiat 500e, the Cupra Born, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Volkswagen included the ID.4 and ID.3, as well as the Audi e-tron.
Overall, full electric vehicles accounted for 16.3% of car sales in Switzerland in the first 9 months of the year, and plug-in hybrids accounted for another 8.4%, accounting for 24.7% of plug-in car sales.
