Slavia Prague vs. CFR Cluj: Preview and betting tips
It’s been more than a year since Jan Bořil last kicked a balloon. After the derby with Sparta, he decided that he couldn’t play with a sore knee anymore and he had to do something about it. But the forecasts really scared the captain of Slavia, but in the end everything is not as black as it seems.
From the position of leader on the field, Bořil got into the role of non-playing captain. It’s been working like this for over a year, which doesn’t bite very well. But at least he already has some positive prospects, because it must have been a shock at the beginning.
Back in May, as captain, he led Slavia to the title in a season in which they did not lose even once. At the same time, he also lifted the Czech Cup over his head and played in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. In the summer, he reached the quarter-finals of the Euro with the national team, at that moment he had no idea what was coming in a few months.
The pain in the knee persisted until it was unbearable and after the derby with Sparta, Bořil finally decided to do something about it. But the examination gave him a real fright.
End of career?
“Especially from the beginning it was a shock. Some doctors – and there were quite a few – told me flat out that it was 50/50 if I would ever play football again. The first prognoses sounded really bad, grade four cartilage damage is a serious matter. I admit that I also shed a tear,” recalls Bořil in an interview for iToday.
It was a huge shock for the captain of Slavia, who was used to going to a match every 3 days. He wasn’t ready for the end, but fortunately he got to the top German doctor Hinterwimmer, who is in charge of the biggest stars. “He calmed me down: Don’t worry, you’ll still play,” describes Boril.
“He was just preparing me for the fact that it would take time. Among other things, he did an osteotomy, an operation in which the bone is cut and the knee is straightened so that it is not in an O. The cartilage needed to be straight and the bones did not meet. the Slavia defender explains the origin of his problem.
And how are things with Bořil currently? In the absence of the 31-year-old football coach, he participates more among himself, is an extended hand in the cabin, and at the same time offers his perspective to the coaches. But at the same time, he is looking forward to returning to the lawns.
Coming back soon
“I have to wait. The doctors should only remove the plate from my knees in November, then I will have another three weeks of rest, but in January I should probably be in training with the boys. I will be able to ride a bike for three weeks at the most, so at the first training session I will be able to do about fifty percent of what the others do. I should probably be ready for the second one, the game one,” Bořil is looking forward to it.
at the same time, there was not much left and he never played again. If he entrusted himself to the care of Czech doctors, he could most likely forget about professional work.
“One doctor told me that if he operated on me, I was done with professional football. The second one is that we will do the operation, but let me count on the fact that it won’t be the last and that I will eventually have a metal knee. I definitely didn’t want that. Fortunately, Mr. Hinterwimmer explained to me that after his intervention, the knee would not have to be touched for fifteen or twenty years.” Bořil describes the search for an ideal solution.
If everything goes well, Slavia could go to the spring season with its captain. It is certain that coach Trpišovský will not want to rush his return, but he could gradually appear in the lineup.
However, the question is whether he will even have a place in the lineup. In his left back position, David Jurásek performed brilliantly, and Oscar Dorley is also available. So I offer to move to right back, where Bořil also played before and there is no such competition.
