Pediatric physiotherapy, the European experts at a conference in Florence
ROME – The second edition of the European Pediatric Physiotherapy Congress opens tomorrow in Florence (EUPPT, 6-8 October), an event that took place by the Pediatric Physiotherapy GIS ofItalian Association of Physiotherapy-AIFI in collaboration with the Master in Pediatric Physiotherapy of theUniversity of Florence and with the rehabilitation service ofMeyer University Hospital. Professionals from all over Europe will compete from 6 to 8 October to promote experiences in the area of scientific knowledge, pediatric physiotherapy and clinical practice and professional specialist training.

What contribution does the Pediatric GIS to this great international event? “The first edition of the Congress, held in Utrecht in 2019, proved to be an extremely enriching experience that underlined the importance of building a European network of pediatric physiotherapists – he replies Antonella d’Aversa, vice president of GIS Pediatric Physiotherapy – Our Scientific Interest Group, which has always believed in the team, has accepted, with the support of the AIFI Board of Directors and the support of the communication staff, the invitation to carry on this networking project, with the goal of encouraging the creation of strong connections and promoting concrete projects. An important contribution was also offered by the Master in Pediatric Physiotherapy of the University of Florence and by the Professional Rehabilitation Unit of the Meyer Hospital, which have always collaborated with our GIS ”.
For three days over the three days of physiotherapists will work together comparing the latest evidence, deepening research topics and their application in daily rehabilitation. What are the most relevant macro-themes that will be explored in the program? Precisa d’Aversa: “The scientific program is concentrated on three main themes: neuroscience in pediatric physiotherapy, the basis for the construction of rehabilitation treatment and the development of new technologies integrated with it, complex disabilities, an important challenge for the modern physiotherapist to which are required wide-ranging, advanced and hyperspecialistic skills, and physiotherapy in adolescence, a delicate phase and transition from childhood to adulthood that requires adaptation in the game both in the proposals and in the intervention and communication methods “.
The panel of international voices speaking in Florence is large and qualified and includes experts who come from Portugal and Switzerland, Sweden and Holland, Belgium and Spain. Who are the Italian expert physiotherapists who will speak as speakers and what are their contents? The vice president of the GIS replies: “Numerous Italian and foreign physiotherapists will alternate during the sessions of the Congress. We mention just a few: Laura Beccani (Reggio Emilia) and Giulio Valgussa (Como) will deepen, in a preconvention workshop with great appeal, the issues inherent to the evaluation and treatment strategies of the toe-walker, the child who walks on toes. With Maurizio Petrarca (President of GIS Neurosciences, Rome, Bambino Gesù) and colleagues will address the issue of ecological theories of motor learning and their relapse in pediatric physiotherapy while Serena Barsaglini (USL Toscana Centro) will deepen the theme of promoting physical activity in children with different abilities. Beatrice Ferrari (Meyer Florence) ed Elia Bassini (President of GIS Pelvic Floor, Perugia), respectively, respiratory problems in complex conditions and the management of pelvic-perineal dysfunctions in adolescence. Matteo Pirino (Meyer Firenze), together with European and Italian colleagues, will coordinate the interactive discussion sessions on the main themes of the Congress “.
