INFO THE DISPATCH. Murder or accident? Near Toulouse, the death of Didier D. raises questions
The death of Didier D., a sexagenarian from Rieumes, near Toulouse, raises many questions. This fishing enthusiast was discovered dead on Wednesday September 28 in his bed.
This Wednesday, the house of Didier D. seems almost abandoned. His 90s caravan parked at the height of the gate is ahead of the French flag which sits in front of a garage. On the front door, a seal has just been affixed by the police. It may be forbidden to enter this potentially criminal scene.
Didier D., a 60-year-old resident of Rieumes, did he die by accident or was he the victim of an attack? This is a question that the gendarmes and the Toulouse prosecutor’s office have been trying to answer since September 28. At the start of the week, the public prosecutor could even entrust the case to an investigating judge.
Invalid bank transfers
This mystery was born on September 26. That day, the son and daughter of Didier D. would have received a bank transfer of several thousand euros from their father. Visibly surprised, the son of Didier D. would have tried to reach him several times without hearing his voice. To make sure that all is well, this thirty-something would have gone to his father the following Wednesday, September 28. Upon his arrival, the young man would then have discovered the lifeless body of the sexagenarian, lying in his bed.
The first observations made the same day by the gendarmes of the Muret company did not make it possible to determine the causes of death. A priori, the sexagenarian died without the intervention of a third party but as a precaution, the prosecutor ordered an autopsy.
Suspicious injuries to the head and forearms
The results arrived two days later, Friday 30. And the report drawn up by the medical examiners casts a stone in the pond. The body of this fishing enthusiast bears different marks. The injury to the skull may be the result of a fall, but those found on the forearms are similar to defense injuries. As if he wanted to repel an attack. Following these examination results, in order not to rule out any hypothesis, the prosecutor assigned the investigations to the Gendarmerie Research Section, assisted by the Muret research brigade
In the neighborhood, Didier D. is described as a solitary man, very attached to French tradition. He has lived in Rieumes for more than fifteen years and is involved in fishing associations. This recent retiree is also known for his outspokenness and his outbursts. In 2018, for example, he would have fired several shots in the air to complain about the noise of a mower. Did his attitude spell trouble for him? Lately, Didier D. and his company were close to a separation. Those who crossed his path recently were even worried to see him nervous so weakened.
At this stage of the investigations, a death linked to an accidental fall remains possible but the criminal trail is clearly explored.
