Fretilin asks Portugal to suspend the entry of Timorese – Current Affairs
In Lusa in Lisbon, Alkatiri, the platform that supports the Timorese government, coordinated between the Timorese government, “in Timor-Leste this wave of demand for life must be stopped, while there is no high level agreement” between governments to accommodate this “.
In recent days, the situation and abandonment of agriculture has been news that thousands of Timorese are working in the crisis sector, a social situation that has already motivated requests for support from several municipalities.
This is a “shocking” situation that has been the subject of contacts made with the Portuguese rulers, Mari Alkatiri.
“I think that first there is an agreement-agree-East and Timor-Leste” that complements the “within the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP)” with a view to a work visa from the Portuguese Community (CPLP).
“Mobility alone does not solve the problem, because when the Timorese arrive in Portugal, how can they stay? How do they accommodate themselves? How can they be in legal conditions to search?”, questioned the Fretilin leader, who praised the new legislation that employs a deadline six months for CPLP citizens to try to find work.
“This is not enough, but it is already a positive step that the Portuguese Government has taken”, but “the fundamental thing is to suspend their coming [dos timorenses] now”.
Afterwards, it is necessary for Timor-Leste to provide “adequate training to those who emigrate”, with “vocational and professional training” that correspond to the needs of the countries of destination.
For Mari Alkatiri’s hope, this Timorese desire to emigrate shows that “there is a youth that has lost” in the country’s future, that “no longer lives on nostalgia for the period of restoration of independence” and “wants a concrete future”.
To this end, it is also necessary for the Timorese to make political regime pacts that promote well-being in the medium and correspond to the aspirations of the population.
This implies that the main parties, Fretilin and the National Council of Timorese Resistance (CNRT, by Xanana Gusmão) agree on the lines of development.
“I have long defended political consensuses that are essential for small countries” but, in Timor-Leste, “there are many myths and the strongest of them is money” that undermines agreements.
In Timor-Leste, “there is a certain nostalgia that is the figure of Xanana” that marks a “way of doing politics” in the country, said Alkatiri, adding: “Xanana knows the people very well and knows how to exploit part of this lack of information” in “benefit of some.
Currently, the CNRT and Fretilin cannot, in isolation, gain power and then there are “those small ones” that “still continue to proliferate” and that guarantee the party in power.
“The myth in Timor-Leste is no longer Xanana, the myth in Timor-Leste is money” and “that’s how politics is also done”, commented Mari Alkatiri, who praised the work of the President, José Ramos-Horta, who defeated the Fretilin candidate.
“there will not be a future, a president in Timor-Leste so soon, but he will not be a president for all Timorese, but he will make an effort in this direction” and has “opened international relations a diplomat, who privileges international relations and in that head is the “Mari a little in question of cooperation with development”, affirmed Marikatiri, a risk of starting a government campaign, promising to be more a question of electoral intervention.
“I never believe in that campaign slogan,” said Mari Alkatiri.
