Fans trust him with the first success
1. FC Köln has extended the contract with successful coach Steffen Baumgart. Those responsible at Domstadt have renewed the working papers of the 50-year-old and his coaching team, so that the entire coaching staff is now bound to “Effzeh” “beyond June 30, 2023”.
The club refrained from specifying the exact term. In this context, FanQ asked German football fans whether the Cologne trainer could be successful in the long term with the billy goats.
Those responsible in Cologne refrain from specifying the contract period
Steffen Baumgart switched from SC Paderborn to 1. FC Köln in the summer of 2021, who had only kept their class last year through the relegation against Kiel. In his first season in the cathedral city, he led the ‘Effzeh’ to seventh place in the table and thus into the Conference League. The 50-year-old is not only very popular with the Cologne fans because of his sporting successes, but also because of his emotional and honest nature.
Accordingly, most supporters of the Billy Goats should have taken the news of the contract extension of the successful coach positively. Those responsible were also very happy about the renewal of their head coach’s working paper. However, they did not name an exact term.
“The coaching team of our licensed team is extremely competent in every single position. This includes not only the assistant coaches who are on the pitch every day, but also the athletic coaches and match analysts, all of whom do an excellent job. It’s a pleasure to see the boys from the call center developing our team together,” enthused Christian Keller, Managing Director of 1. FC Köln.
“On the one hand there is commitment and meticulousness, on the other hand fun at work is not neglected. This is how an extremely good team spirit developed. The exchange between Steffen and his fellow coaches is on an equal footing, everyone contributes their expertise and has thus contributed to our successful path, which we want to continue in the future,” continued Keller.
In addition to Baumgart, the so-called “call center” consists of the assistant coaches André Pawlak, René Wagner and Kevin McKenna, goalkeeper coach Uwe Gospodarek, the athletic coaches Max Weuthen, Leif Fach and Tillmann Bockhorst as well as the match analysts Hannes Dold and Denis Huckestein.
In view of the contract extension of Steffen Baumgart and his coaching staff, FanQ asked football fans in Germany whether they think the 50-year-old can be successful in Cologne in the long term.
More than nine out of ten (91.54%) of the people taking part in the survey are convinced that Baumgart can shape a successful era at ‘Effzeh’. On the other hand, just over every twentieth (5.38%) interviewee does not think that the trainer in the cathedral city will be successful in the long term.
They tend to assume that the ‘Effzeh’ will sooner or later have to reckon with a negative trend again. It remains to be seen where the billy goats will end up at the end of the season. They are currently in seventh place in the Bundesliga.
In the Conference League, Cologne still have every chance of getting through the group stage with four points from two games, while they have already been eliminated from the DFB Cup after losing the first round to SSV Jahn Regensburg (3:4 on penalties).
