For a team descending from Pro B, with clearly defined aspirations to return to this level as soon as possible, it was out of the question to follow up with a second defeat after the setback conceded on Saturday October 1 at Pont de Cheruy (88-74). What could be better than a derby to start off on the right foot, this Tuesday, October 4, 2022, on the occasion of the 3rd day of National 1? To deal with Rouen, Caen Basket Calvadoswinner of Andrézieux four days earlier (99-77), visit to follow on a second success in a row.
Very applied at the start of the game and with Mounir Bernaoui on fire offensively (15 points in the first half), Caen BC ended the first quarter with a good lead (15-22, 10th). But the physical duel imposed by the Rouennais seemed to bear fruit for the Haut-Normans. Caen’s inaccuracies allowed them to get back into the match (40-41, 20th).
Lots of bullet losses
Not always comfortable in the game, the Caennais nevertheless remained in contact, to better overtake their opponent at the start of the 4th quarter. Carl Ona Embo brought out the ball for Parfait Njiba who offered himself a 3-point basket to put his people in the right direction (58-59, 31st). But again, Stéphane Eberlin’s men scuttled with ball losses (20 over the whole match) which benefited Rouen (71-67, 36th). This time, Caen would not return (82-76, 40th).
After this derby in Rouen, the Caennais have an appointment in Kaysersberg on Friday October 16 (8 p.m.), always on the move, therefore. They will then continue with the reception of Le Havre, Tuesday October 11 (8 p.m.), for a new attractive derby at the Palais des Sports.
