Autumn wave of Covid-19: calm situation in the province of Luxembourg
And this as explained by Dr. Pascal Pierre, the director of medical affairs for the intermunicipal Vivalia, to whom we asked the question.
“We are far from the situation of 2020 at this timehe answers. We have on average, in our different hospitals, 3 to 4 patients hospitalized for Covid. They are isolated in their room with all the precautions. In reality, we have always had Covid patients, including during the summer. This does not require reserving beds, or organizing a Covid unit, as part of a hospital emergency plan defined in consultation with the government.
The province often affected later
At the height of the pandemic, two years ago, Vivalia hospitals counted up to 90 Covid patients.
“I don’t have a crystal ball and I obviously don’t know how to tell how the situation will assess, completes Dr. Pierre. But if we have to handle the situation like we did even if we are short of nursing staff. On the other hand, it is reasonable to prepare for an increase in Covid cases because it is a respiratory disease. And like other respiratory diseases, whether it’s the flu or bronchiolitis, the return of autumn favors the increase in cases.”
The medical affairs director of Vivalia also believes that vaccination and, the reinforced immunity within the population which has already had the Covid, is one of the factors making it possible to better cope with the virus.
And with regard to the province of Luxembourg, Pascal Pierre also notes that, during the previous waves, it was affected a few days later more than other regions of the country. This also makes it possible to anticipate.
