Berlin (dpa / bb) – The Potsdam Royals are on Saturday in Frankfurt / Main (6 p.m.) for the first time in the German Bowl final for the title of German Champion of the German Football League (GFL). Opponents are the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, who are reaching for the championship for the tenth time and have won it four times.
Both Potsdam and Schwäbisch Hall remained unbeaten in the regular GFL season in the north and in the south relay and in the following playoffs. They mainly convinced with their strong offensive. In the semifinals, Potsdam beat the Cologne Crocodiles 49:21 and Hall the Allgäu Comets 33:8.
The Royals had to cope with the handicap of a hand injury to US quarterback Chris Helbig (24) in the first quarter, who was replaced by backup Robert Patterson, who was just as convincing. All of the seven attacking series contested by the Brandenburgers ended with a touchdown. It was not yet clear in the middle of the week whether Helbig would be available again in the final.
