Two bronze medals for Bulgaria on the first day of the World Wrestling Championship for veterans in Plovdiv
Bulgarian athletes won two bronze medals on the first day of the World Veteran Wrestling Championship in Plovdiv.
The distinction went to Svetoslav Dimitrov, who in the small final in the 62-kilogram freestyle, prevailed over Elnur Hasanov (Azerbaijan) with a technical victory 10:0. The fight is in division B (under 45).
Two wins and two losses followed, a bronze turn and Ivan Chavov in the category up to 100 kg of division E (up to 60 years old). Stoyan Stoyanov placed fifth in the 88 kg category after suffering an injury. Both Bulgarians in this division declared participation at the last moment.
The rest of the national team today failed to fight for honors – Atanas Atanasov (88 kg), Yulian Georgiev (100 kg) and Pascal Karanikov (130 kg).
Tomorrow, another eight Bulgarian wrestlers will appear in the “Kolodruma” hall. In division C (up to 50 years old) Yordan Radkov (70 kg), Pavel Timonov (78 kg), Mehmed Kodakov (100 kg), Stefan Georgiev (100 kg) will compete, and in division D (up to 55 years old) forces will compete Remzi Osman (62 kg), Ivaylo Sarov (70 kg), Kiril Dimitrov (78 kg) and Marcho Dinev Markov (130 kg).
The championship was officially opened by the Vice President of the International Federation (UWW) Theodoros Hamakos (Greece). The President of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation Hristo Marinov sent a greeting to the users.
During the ceremony, Zdravka Yordanova, president of the “Masters” federation in our country, was awarded by BFBorba for the cooperation in the organization of the championship.
On the occasion of his 70th anniversary, Doncho Zhekov, European champion from Madrid 74, received an honorary plaque from Hristo Marinov.
The fights continue tomorrow at 10.30 am. Entry for spectators is free.
