The Social Democrats have printed election advertisements in Danish newspapers
– Reality is about collaboration. The election is about who can make it happen, says the ad, which has a central location in the Wednesday editions of Jyllands-Posten, Berlingske and Politiken, among others, according to the news agency.
Furthermore, it says that the ad is also printed in Kristeligt Dagblad, Information, Ekstra Bladet and BT
If Frederiksen does not call an election, Radikale Venstre has announced a motion of no confidence against the Social Democratic minority government when the Folketing holds its opening debate on Thursday.
Denmark does not have early election dates, only a rule that the Prime Minister calls an election before four years have passed since the previous election. In theory, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen could wait until 4 June next year, but it is not unusual for elections to be called before a Prime Minister has to do this.
The background is the crushing criticism that was directed at Frederiksen and her government in this summer’s report from the Mink Commission. Here it is established that Frederiksen’s order to cull all mink in the country as a result of fear of a mutated corona variant was illegal.
The decision, which was taken in 2020 a few months into the corona pandemic, led to the culling of millions of mink. Many of them were on mink farms where no infection had been detected, and an entire industry was discontinued.
