First stage of the implementation of a Lyon RER
The Region presented this route as the first stage in the implementation of a Lyon RER around the conurbation, via optimal coverage of the territory and new connections. The objective is, by bringing this line into service, to provide more trains and reduce delays.
This Lyon RER has, according to the Region, the objective of offering trains every 15 minutes, extended timetables from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and a single ticket for all public transport within the Lyon metropolitan area. The Lyon RER project aims to modernize the entire metropolis rail network.

This Lyon RER project also aims to offer varied transport solutions to all inhabitants (tram, tram-train, bus, cars, etc.). It comprises various aspects, including the commissioning of new trains on highly congested axes, such as Mâcon / Villefranche-sur-Saône – Lyon or Saint-Etienne – Lyon, but also the improvement of the Lyon / Brignais link (passing via Vourles and Grigny) and those towards Lozanne and Sain-Bel. To the east of Lyon, a public inquiry will be designed to study the reopening of the Crémieux railway line.
