It is at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 that the squat of Ouistreham (21 rue Marthe Janvier) was evacuated. It had been opened on January 22, 2022 by activists from the AG fighting against all expulsions, to house Sudanese exiles.
The squat occupied a house belonging to the town hall of Ouistreham, which previously served the OCEAN association (sailing school), in the Pointe du Siege area near the Ouistreham lighthouse.
“Seven people have had their situation examined in view of the right of residence,” notes the prefecture of Calvados in a press release.
Being in a regular situation (asylum request in progress or residence permit in force), the people were left free at the end of the operation.
The evacuation “which took place calmly”, occurred in application of the judgment rendered on March 31, 2022 by the Caen judicial court.
Prefect’s determination
Several State services intervened: national gendarmerie, border police, immigration service, French office for immigration and integration, services in charge of the right of residence.
“The prefect of Calvados is determined to put an end to these illegal occupations and to proceed with the evacuation of the squats”, ends the press release.
