Households in several towns in Pas-de-Calais are seeing their water bills explode, because the water union is charging for the construction of several treatment plants. Results : the cost of a cubic meter of water has more than doubled.
In Quelmes (Pas-de-Calais), Caroline Coppin pouts at her water bill. This mother of four children, two of whom are still adults at home, a saw the bill soar in the space of two years, with an increase of 41% while its consumption fell. She pays more than ten euros per cubic meter of water, one of the highest prices in France. And it’s not the only one in this case: the inhabitants of six rural communes near Saint-Omer (Pas de Calais) are concerned.
What do these municipalities, which pay a high price for water, have in common? They have all gone to collective sanitation. This is what weighed down the score, because these villages have made extensive investments: four wastewater treatment plants for less than 3,000 inhabitants, that is five million euros of loans that the new syndicate of management of thewater pay now to consumer. Gathered as a collective, the inhabitants demand a return to acceptable prices.
