The plan is part of the Next Generation EU program of the EU, and the latter was born in response to the consequences of Covid-19 on the economies of the EU member states. However, Lithuania was less affected by the pandemic than other EU countries, so EU grants and additional financial instruments are the biggest long-term strategic benefits of our country, says G. Skaist.
The main strategic directions of investment were dictated by the European Commission (EC): it was stipulated that each member state should allocate 37% of EU funds to transformation and 20% to digitization. Other priorities are related to the implementation of the recommendations of the Council of Europe for Lithuania. Lithuania plans to allocate 40% of the funds to the implementation of the oil exchange rate, but the strategic direction is limited and other important things are strengthening of energy independence, digitization, higher added value creation, improvement of the distribution system, noted G. Skaist.
