approved the Regulation that includes San Marino in the joint procurement procedure
We all remember in the worst stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, the difficulties and delays related to furniture of vaccines to the Republic of San Marino from Europe, through the Italian mediation. Delays in procurement which – it must be said – in various periods affected the entire European Region. From today, however, San Marino, directly, counts on an extra guarantee.
Like any EU member state, even if it is not, the Titan will be able to participate in the joint procurement procedure for medical countermeasures in the event of serious cross-border threats to health. The European Parliament in fact approved today, with 544 votes in favor, 50 against and a handful of abstentions, the Regulation which provides for the Small States – San Marino, together with Monaco, Andorra and the Vatican City– the possibility of re-entering the procurement mechanism not only of vaccines when needed, but above all of new curative drugs and other health goods and services in the face of the emergency.
A chance of fair access to medical countermeasures that have been working on for two years now (in September 2021 an amendment proposed by the Honorable Member was approved in the European Parliament Alessandra Moretti (PD) with which the Commission was asked to implement the measure necessary to hold the mechanism in San Marino, Monaco Andorra and on the basis of “a coordinated approach, of solidarity and responsibility”). Today the positive ending. Also thanks to the constant work of interrelation, also political-diplomatic, led by the Foreign Secretary Luca Beccari with numerous MEPs, recording the support of the Italian Honorable Members present in the EU Parliament.
