Ukraine to change its view on grain storage October 3, 2022
Authors of the articles:
The full-scale war forced farmers to get used to new conditions and quickly respond to any challenges. also, the blocking of seaports of Ukraine forced them to build new logistics chains. And the large transitional balances and the uncertainty regarding the sale of grain against the background of a lack of storage capacity accelerated the process of finding new solutions: someone converted all existing technical premises into grain storages, someone built new ones, and someone tried to buy “sleeves”, which very quickly became a scarce commodity in Ukraine. Currently, the queue for the rented loading and unloading equipment is scheduled for a month in advance. Therefore, farmers have to look for all new alternatives.
Any decision is practical – the main thing is to save the grain with minimal costs.
Producers of agricultural products are constantly building, restoring or renovating cowsheds, pig houses, sheds and other production facilities for grain storage. And this year is no exception.
And in the 50s and 60s of the last century in Kazakhstan, grain was dumped in the open air. They fulfilled the tasks of the party. It is clear that part of the grain lost quality and quantity, and given the decision of the ideologues was punished.
In the classical literature, even the options for making sides with wooden walls of different heights are described, and there are ready-made technical solutions. Taking into account modern polymer materials and the possibility of draining water from the edge, it is possible to make edges of different volumes, limited only by the width of the film or awning. It is clear that this solution is optimal for storing small batches, but it makes it possible to tell several thousand tons if necessary.
If the farm has a shed, you can use big-bag storage for grain storage. It is possible to print the grain in several layers if the equipment is available. But it is necessary to pay attention to quality characteristics, cheap running equipment, unfortunately, after the first use, you will not use it again.
That is, there is always a solution – the question is what volume of grain should be put into storage.
I think that this year Ukraine will slightly change its view on grain storage. It is quite possible that the narrative of marriage also has somewhat greater powers.
The sunflower harvesting season is now underway, but constant rains are delaying it. And after that, the corn harvest will begin, which is not so much this year. I traveled around Ukraine and did not see as many corn megapolises as before. Therefore, it is possible that we will survive this year and it will turn out that we did not have such a shortage of grain storage capacity, as is said about it. Although in any case, in 2022, it is necessary to change the outlook of our farmers and encourage them to use more alternative methods of storing and processing their own grain products.
