Krasimir Dunev: I hope Bulgaria will again have a participant in the Olympic Games
The president of the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation Krasimir Dunev is satisfied with the successes of the Bulgarian athletes during the past weekend.
The national team won a total of six medals (one silver and five bronze) at the Gymnastics World Cup in Szombathely (Hungary) and at the international men’s tournament in Bucharest (Romania).
“I am extremely happy for the success of our competitors. I can say that I expected even more success at the World Cup in Hungary. David Huddlestone and Yordan Alexandrov have a chance to be able to be in the final and take a medal, Dimitar Dimitrov in floor gymnastics is the favorite in this order and can also be in the final, Yordan Aleksandrov has bronze on the hanger, Dimitar Dimitrov with the fourth place on vault, he almost missed a medal. four medals and a team bronze,” said Dunev specially for BNR.
He hopes Bulgaria will have a participant in the Games in Paris 2024, after David Huddlestone starts in Tokyo 2020.
“I think that if everything goes well and everyone is healthy, we will be able to get a quota for the Olympic Games again,” added the president of the federation.
Dunev revealed that Huddlestone was ill and therefore did not perform as expected in Hungary.
“David Huddlestone was sick, that’s why he didn’t play well in this World Cup and didn’t qualify for the final. Even there it didn’t feel good. We did his tests, it’s not coronavirus. It must be some kind of virus, he had a fever, cough, food for almost a week, you can’t train fully. I hope it will be better now and after two days at the World Cup in Mersin, I hope we will have success”, added Krasimir Dunev.
One of the national competitors, Ryan Radkov, has a knee injury and will probably undergo surgery.
“Unfortunately, just one day before leaving for the tournament in Romania, Radkov landed badly in floor gymnastics and injured his knee. We did an MRI on him. It shows that he most likely has a torn cruciate ligament and formation of the meniscus. Now it remains to be seen Radkov was supposed to travel to the World Cup in Mersin, but we made a change and Christos Marinov will take part in his place, he has his crown device rings. “said the president of the plant.
Radkov was replaced in the lineup by Martin Mishev, who even won a medal in the final after the bracelet ended.
“I am very happy for him as he was in Blagoevgrad and did not even participate in the highlight camp in Sofia. I called him the day before departure and he was ready to go. He also achieved great success as he took a medal after the end of with bracelets and helped the team,” said Dunev.
The World Cup is coming up this weekend in the Turkish city of Mersin.
“The World Cup in Hungary was very strong, in Mersin there will also be many gymnasts from all over the world. There is not even a month before the World Championships and everyone wants to see how the situation is. The World Championships will be one of the strongest in recent years , We, unfortunately, will participate with only two competitors, as we did not manage to qualify with the team. This will be a truly unique success,” said Krasimir Dunev.
