What “treat” shopping to do at the Foire de Marseille?
The 97th Marseille International Fair will soon close its doors. Visiting it is the local tradition so, if every year, we wonder what we can find there, here is our selection for gourmet moments and relaxation with friends.
Play aperitif extensions
Head to Hall 5, renamed Halle de la Régalade for the occasion. After the astonishment of discovering an airy space with few stalls, there is something to prolong the aperitif with friends with, in particular, the delight of zucchini with organic almonds, one of Aix&terra’s newest appetizer recipes. We love its delicate but present hint of cumin. The company, created by Marine and Richard Alibert in 2010, owes its name to the original small Aix grocery store. Since then, the ranges of sauces, oils, appetizer recipes and sweet delicacies have expanded, described in collaboration with starred chef Julien Allano. Coming soon a white balsamic vinegar with orange peel and a Valrhona chocolate cream and Montélimar nougat. Online or in store.

Who says aperitif in Marseille, think petanque. But what to do when you don’t have a garden but an apartment, with neighbors? The Marseillais Sébastien Magnan has created La Mariole: an incredible game of soft balls, with the same rules as classic petanque. This idea came to him after a well-watered meal with friends and a few pairs of socks. Then, he refined the concept during the confinements. The product is now well finished, in imitation leather and propylene beads, and displays a nice choice of colors, triplet or six-pack version, jack included.
> Triplette €39 Fair Price instead of €45, pack of six €55 instead of €69.

Frozen delights for Indian summer
Head to Hall 1. This is certainly the smallest stand at the Fair, but its artisanal Lebanese ice cream with orange blossom or rose blossom and lentisk pistachio sap, generously sprinkled with crushed pistachios, attract gourmets. “No need to go to Paris, to Bachir’s” exclaimed a visitor. Indeed, it is with chef Alan Geaam (Asti restaurant at the New Hotel) that Julien Doudoukdjian, founder of Hamov ice cream, worked on this traditional, simple but tasty recipe. With his team, he has been making them in the 12th arrondissement of Marseille, since April, and delivering them to your home, in a one-liter container or in a log for 10 to 12 people.

Let’s stay in the ice. Those nostalgic for the Culinarion boutique, rue Paradis in Marseille, will find, still in hall 1, the team from Valence who have come to present the new Toao ice cream maker. Design, connected, an imposing bit let’s face it, self-refrigerating, the Tooa makes Italian ice cream in just 4 minutes and, if you wish, in individual portions. Hazelnut, strawberry, fior di latte, dark chocolate, mango, pistachio are some of the flavors available in “brik”, without preservatives, to go faster. Note that it was designed and manufactured in Italy. Its price is also a bit greedy but when you like…
> Tooa® ice cream maker €399 – TooaBrik per 2 from €2.40 to €2.90

This time, hall 8, we sit in armchairs from Senegal, in cheerful and fruity colors. Their particularity? Unique pieces, in mass-dyed and UV-resistant fishing threads, handmade by Senegalese creative artisans recognized for their know-how. “Thus, these craftsmen can provide for their families thanks to their talent and we also hire young people to offer them the opportunity of a trade” explains the founder of the eponymous brand, Michel Henry Djilène, himself of Senegalese origin.
> Depending on the model, armchair €449, throne €824
