Thessaloniki – “I run to the Camps”: Message of performance of the camps to the Municipalities
It took place today, Sunday, October 2, with free participation for all ages of the “Run in the Fields” Road Race by the Municipalities of Kordelio Evosmos, Ampelokipi Menemeni and Pavlos Melas.
In a related post, the mayor of Kordelio Evosmou, Kleanthis Mandalianos, states:
The three “sister” municipalities of Western Thessalonikithe municipalities of Kordelio – Evosmos, Pavlos Melas and Ampelokipi – Menemeni, we join forces for the common good.
Today, together with our fellow citizens from all three municipalities, we symbolically ran to the camps and the streets of Western Thessaloniki, with the aim of sending a resounding message of the need to hand over all the camps in the area to the municipalities, so that they can be turned into metropolitan parks.
With the greenery in Thessaloniki being below the average per inhabitant and the lack of spaces for citizens is not a sad reality, the utilization of the abandoned and destroyed camps for the benefit of the local society and the environment, is an obligation of the State which must proceed immediately, without further delay.
As a municipality we claim the concession of the 123 acres of the former Ziaka camp and the transfer of the Papakyriazi camp to another site in order to give this to the local community, so that we can proceed with their renovations and turn them into hyperlocal parks of green, recreation and multiple activities, something that has begun to be done with the former camps of Pavlos Melas and M. Alexandros and with a part of the camp Karatassiou.
Together with the mayor of Ampelokipi – Menemeni, Lazaros Kyrizoglou and the mayor of Pavlos Melas, Dimitris Demourtzidis, we have a common vision to turn Western Thessaloniki into a lung of greenery, culture and recreation for our citizens, as well as for the citizens of Thessaloniki.
