Martinican designer Maylie Guitteaud stands out at Paris Fashion Week
It’s a bit of a dream come true for this stylist designer from Martinique. After two years of collaboration with a major international brand, she was selected to create and present three models during the spring-summer show at Paris Fashion Week.
When she thinks back to this day of September 20, 2022, the eyes of Maylie Guitteaud sparkle with happiness. That day, the 29-year-old designer dressed three models with her creations at the spring-summer fashion show of the international brand “Shein”. It was in Paris, on a barge not far from the Alma bridge, with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop.

It’s impressive ! I still have a hard time telling myself that I experienced that. It’s awesome ! It was interesting for us as stylist designers, it was the first time we did a fashion show. Me, I’ve often been a dresser for fashion shows and there finding yourself in the place of the stylist, it was great! We make the garment, but we don’t realize, at the end, on the mannequin, on the catwalk. I almost cried when I saw my first model wearing my outfit on the catwalk. I love my job! It was called back, I loved it! And I was also proud because two of the models were Caribbean.

Originally from the Dillon district in Fort-de-France, the young woman was almost born with a needle and a thimble between her fingers. As a child, she was already transforming fabrics into clothing for her dolls. Later, it is these old pajamas that she uses to create. Her mother, as passionate as she was about fashion, introduced her to sewing.
A fashion school later and her equivalence BTS fashion designer ready-to-wear woman in her pocket, she created her brand “May’G“. Then, she comes across an advertisement for the international brand “Shein”.
I applied on the site for a program to help young designers evaluate. They called me back a few months later, when I didn’t even think about it anymore. I did it like that because I thought it was interesting. But since it was a big brand, I didn’t think they would have targeted each other, since I’m not known. Talking to them, I thought I might as well get started and see. And I don’t regret. I have been working with them for two years. They offered me in June to do a fashion show and I immediately accepted.
The young designer from Martinique has been selected to be one of the 25 designers participating in the brand’s fashion show during Paris Fashion Week.
The instructions were to make three models from A to Z. They gave us the means and followed us throughout the development. We do video conferences. Afterwards, we settled into a hotel and had masterclasses with other stylists. We did all the preparation for the show with the tests with the models, the alterations…

A vinyl dress, a skirt set and another cotton garbadine pants, she creates three models in black color.
I like a lot of things, I am inspired by a lot of things. It’s between chic and casual. In terms of colors, I really like black. But I try to diversify with other colors. In terms of materials, I really like satin, muslin, silk, vinyl, neoprene, leather, fur. These are materials that I really like and that I highlight. Afterwards I try to touch everything and get out of my comfort zone because I tell myself that it must be versatile. My style is really chic and casual. I mix simplicity and complexity with precise details and that’s it.
In two years of collaboration, the young woman has produced three collections, i.e. around thirty models that she has designed, and she has also chosen the color and the fabric. The brand takes care of the production.
I have a collection that came out in relation to the show. I have one which appeared a year ago and normally another to come. I want to continue on this beautiful origin and make even more creations. I want to develop my brand, do other fashion shows. A parade of my own, organized from start to finish. I want to do lots of things to show my work. Influencer of other people who want to be a stylist but are afraid to take the plunge. I hope to make myself known and if I can represent Martinique, I will be delighted to be able to show what we can do.
From now on, everything seems possible for Maylie Guitteaud who asserts on her social networks. This is only the beginning.. Still a lot to do”. The young lady intends to carve out a place for itself in the world of fashion and ready-to-wear.
