Economy, Industry | Norway, Germany and Denmark buy artillery weapons for 1 billion kroner for Ukraine
– This is greatly needed in their defense against Russia. More and more must be bought in from the industry, and now we are joining forces on such procurement, says Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) to TV 2.
Norway, Germany and Denmark plan to buy 16 rounds of the Zuzana-2 type directly from the defense industry in Slovakia.
– The advantage is that it will be new modern shields and we need to buy more from the industry, simply because we have less in stock to donate ourselves, says Gram.
Denmark signed the agreement with Slovakia in Copenhagen on Sunday. Slovakia is scheduled to begin supplying weapons systems to Ukraine in 2023.
These are weapons systems that are already in use in Ukraine, and it is necessary to learn less, according to Gram.
– It is a wheeled modern artillery gun with western Nato standard and long range.
The three countries share the costs equally, with approximately DKK 330 million each. The government has already proposed to allocate DKK 3 billion to Ukraine, and the sum is taken from this amount. The Minister of Defense is convinced that the aid to Ukraine will pass in Parliament.
– It is a broad majority in the Storting who want us to assist Ukraine in their defense battle against Russia, says Gram.
Norway has previously donated M109 artillery shells to Ukraine.
