Attention, traffic will be disrupted from tomorrow between Monaco and Menton… until 2024
Be careful, there is a risk of heavy traffic jams between Monaco and Menton in the coming months! From this Monday, the French Riviera Agglomeration Community (Carf) is launching a major operation to modernize the water networks in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.
Concentrated on avenue Jean-Jaurès initially, then on avenue Louis-Laurens, this work in four phases (read opposite) will lead in particular to the closure of the Monaco/Menton traffic direction on avenue Jean-Jaurès – the main access road to the east of the Principality – then the implementation of an alternating traffic light system and occasional closures of the avenue Louis-Laurens. “A real hassle”, many Monegasque workers and residents of Carf are already worried. Especially since the construction site must last until April… 2024.
It is within the framework of its expertise in the management of drinking water and sanitation networks that Carf is launching this work. The operation aims to replace the main drinking water pipeline in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, “which is no longer able to properly ensure the delivery of drinking water to the east of the town”.
“Essential work”
Very impactful works for traffic therefore but become “essential to secure the water supply of the inhabitants of Roquebrune, and not only”supports the agglomeration.
The project also provides for the renewal of the sewerage networks, the creation of a network to reduce the impact of rainwater on the environment, the modernization of public lighting and the electrical network, as well as surface facilities.
In the direction of Monaco : a one-way traffic is activated on avenue Jean-Jaurès, from the 4 paths roundabout to the intersection with avenue Louis-Laurens.
Towards Menton : a detour route has been created via avenue Varavilla, avenue du Président Kennedy and Notre-Dame de Bon Voyage for light vehicles. Residents of Avenue Louis-Laurens could take Avenue de France to access the entrance to the road.
This closure of the Monaco/Menton traffic direction will be effective tomorrowuntil April 2023. Then from June to November 2023, and from December 2023 to April 2024.
Another traffic change to be expected: the installation of an alternative traffic light, and occasional closures on Avenue Louis-Laurens from January 2023 for three months. Work on this avenue will then resume from December 2023 to April 2024.
The “Les 4 chemins”, “La Boucherie”, “La Tranchée”, and “St Roman” bus stops will not be served in the Monaco/Menton direction for the duration of the works.
Concerning the Zest network, line 22 which necessarily passes through these stops will take the detour route via Varavilla Avenue. The R1 line will start from the top of Varavilla Avenue and will make a new stop at the intersection of the Moyenne Corniche. A shuttle is also set up at the stops: “La Boucherie” at 7 a.m., “La Tranchée” at 7:01 a.m., and “St Roman” at 7:02 a.m. There is no change in the Menton direction. / Monaco.
Regarding the Zou! network, line 607 (Nice-Monaco, formerly line 100) will make the usual route between Nice and Monaco to the Saint-Roman Monaco stop (interchange), via Place d’Armes. Line 608 (Menton-Monaco, formerly line 100) will depart from Menton towards Monaco-place d’Armes then take a detour via the Moyenne Corniche to return towards Roquebrune-Cap-Martin at the 4 paths roundabout.
The Carf also invites motorists to favor carpooling, public transport and soft modes of transport throughout the duration of the works.
